چکیده

The alien invasive insect pest, Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae), commonly referred as to fall armyworm (FAW), is causing significant losses maize production in Africa since its detection 2016. Despite being the primary pest of main food crop country, researchers are more focused on control methods’ development. There no or little research done seasonality which greatly helps timing intervention time by farmers. purpose this was determine how S. fields changed with seasons. surveys were carried out Ethiopia's major maize-growing regions. These include Afar, Benishangul Gumuz, Amhara, Tigray, South Nation, Nationality and Peoples (SNNP), Oromia dry rainy seasons, respectively, from 2018 2019 2020.The survey sites purposively selected based statistics occurrence reports Ethiopia. From different regions, a total 480 maize-producing farmers’ surveyed: 240 season season. Out surveyed during season, 218 infested . During fields, 146 frugiperda. had an average percentage infestation 35.5 70%, while ranged 20 70%. plants per plot for higher Tigray Oromia, lowest recorded at Gumuz SNNP. regions ranges 22.6 52.2 percent, it 11.3 46.6 percent. Afar (46.6 percent), (22.0 Amhara (18.8 SNNP (13.6), (16.1 infestations wet (11.3). findings revealed that Frugiperda economically important both off-season slightly larger than Keywords: Cropping Fall armyworm, Infestation, Invasive, Dry Rainy Population density DOI: 10.7176/ALST/98-01 Publication date: June 30 th 2023

Mortality Dynamics of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) Immatures in Maize

We characterized the dynamics of mortality factors affecting immature developmental stages of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Multiple decrement life tables for egg and early larval stages of S. frugiperda in maize (Zea mays L.) fields were developed with and without augmentative releases of Telenomus remus Nixon (Hymenoptera: Platygastridae) from...

Use of serological techniques for determination of Spodoptera frugiperda(J E Smith) predators (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

Spodoptera frugiperda (J E Smith) is an important pest of several crops, but especially on maize in Brazil. The implementation of biological control measures hinges on the identification of its predators and other natural enemies. As a means of identifying predators, antibodies against S. frugiperda eggs were generated by inoculating rabbits with macerated S. frugiperda eggs, and the production...

Bioactivity of Carica papaya (Caricaceae) against Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae).

The composition of a chloroform seed extract of C. papaya was determined by GC-MS. Nineteen compounds were identified, with oleic (45.97%), palmitic (24.1%) and stearic (8.52%) acids being the main components. The insecticidal and insectistatic activities of the extract and the three main constituents were tested. Larval duration increased by 3.4 d and 2.5 d when the extract was used at 16,000 ...

Haplotype identification within Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) corn and rice strains from Colombia.

The fall army worm Spodoptera frugiperda (Smith) is a migratory important pest of corn, sorghum, rice, grass and bermudagrass in North and South America. This species has diverged into two genetically differentiated but morphologically identical strains, "the rice" and "the corn". They have been analyzed by sequencing the genes cytochrome oxydase I, II and ITS1 from populations from the United ...

Spatial analysis of the distribution of Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) and losses in maize crop productivity using geostatistics.

The fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), is one of the chief pests of maize in the Americas. The study of its spatial distribution is fundamental for designing correct control strategies, improving sampling methods, determining actual and potential crop losses, and adopting precise agricultural techniques. In São Paulo state, Brazil, a maize field was sampled at weekly intervals, ...
